Carmen Dolores Camacho passed away peacefully on January 16, 2025 in San Antonio Texas. Services will be held at ‘La Primera’ (1600 Melwood Ave.) on Saturday, January 25th. Visitation will be at 1:00 and the service at 2:00 PM. The Camacho family is grateful to Heartland Funeral Home for its guidance and support.
Dolores was born on March 11, 1934 in Coleman, Texas. Dolores was a long-time member of the Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana in Brownwood. Along side her parents and other neighborhood family and friends, Dolores was a founding member of the church. Among her many roles in the church, Dolores served as a Sunday School teacher and sang in the choir.
Dolores is best remembered as a homemaker. She did not graduate high school, but instead earned the G.E.D. Dolores attended the Baptist Academy in Brownsville, Texas in pursuit of an art degree but was instead redirected to care for her family. While stern with her caregiving, Dolores was guided by compassion and love. One of her greatest joys was working at the now-named Ron Jackson Orientation and Assessment Unit located in Brownwood. She was fondly referred to as ‘Mother’ Dolores by the boys and girls at the center. She left that job to care for her elderly parents. This transition began her path of caretaker of her younger siblings and nieces and nephews. She loved cooking and baking. She passed down recipes from her mother which continue to nourish the palates of family members. She is affectionately remembered overseeing baking lessons. She had a sweet tooth for chocolate. Dolores placed the welfare of her family above all else. The foundation laid by her parents was embodied by her stalwart support for her family.
Dolores is survived by siblings Esther, Zenaido Jr., Moises (Moses), Rebecca Martinez, David and many nieces, nephews and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Zenaido and Petra Camacho; and, by her siblings Noe (Noah), Sara, Elias (Ellis), and Rodolfo (Rudy).
In Lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Primera Iglesia Bautista Mexicana Church at 1600 Melwood Avenue, Brownwood, Texas 76801.
