GEORGETOWN – The Brownwood Lions soccer team dropped its season opener at the Georgetown Governor’s Cup Thursday, falling by a 1-0 count to Beaumont United.
“Senior captain Stephen Rodriguez did an excellent job defending and creating an attack for us for the entire game,” said Lions head coach Michael Westerman. “We played extremely well in our defensive and midfield third but struggled creating opportunities in the attacking third. We conceded late into the second half from a header off a set piece.”
The Lions (0-1) will face Manor New Tech at 4:20 p.m. Friday and Belton at 2:30 p.m. Saturday to conclude tournament action.
