Dona Marie Guthrie, 85, of Bangs, Texas passed peacefully from this life on March 18, 2015. Visitation for Mrs. Guthrie will be held Friday, March 20, 2015, 6 pm to 8 pm at Davis-Morris Funeral Home. Funeral Services for Mrs. Guthrie will be held Saturday, March 21, 2015, 10:00 am at Davis-Morris Funeral Home with interment at Bangs Cemetery.
Dona Marie Davis was born in Concord, Texas on March 23, 1929 to Bart Davis and Oma Lee Alexander Davis. She married R C Guthrie on January 21, 1947. She was a devoted housewife and mother. Mrs. Guthrie lived on a farm in Brookesmith and raised cows, sheep, goats and chickens. She lived in Brady, Texas for a short time and moved to Bangs, Texas in 1972.
Mrs. Guthrie was a public seamstress for many years and operated more than one café and worked at other jobs over the years. In 1979 she bought a dress store in Bangs known as Dona’s Casuals, which she operated until 2000. She later helped Carol open Carol’s Cakes & More and worked there until 2007. Mrs. Guthrie volunteered in her community and worked the Bangs Mayfest and Bangs Food Pantry. She was a member of the Concord Baptist Church. She loved to cook and was known for her tomato gravy, and chocolate candy. She enjoyed working in her yard and for many years had a big vegetable garden.
Mrs. Guthrie is survived by her daughter, Carol McVay and husband Randy of Early, Texas; her granddaughters, Amber Biggs and husband Alan of Waxahachie, Texas, April McVay of Early, Texas; her brothers, Bob Davis and wife LaRue of Katy, Texas, Don Davis of Bangs, Texas, Bert Davis and wife Donna of Throckmorton, Texas, Derrall Lee & wife Debbie of Throckmorton, Texas; a sister, Betty Rankin of Throckmorton, Texas; 6 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
Mrs. Guthrie is preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and brothers Edward Davis, and M J Davis. Services for Mrs. Guthrie are under the direction of Davis-Morris Funeral Home.
