DUBLIN – Needing to defeat the Dublin Lions by at least five points to reach the playoffs for the fifth year in a row, the Early Longhorns raced out to a 22-2 halftime lead in Friday’s District 5-3A Division II and regular season finale.
But Dublin struck for 20 points in the third quarter to draw even at 22, and added two more touchdowns in fourth quarter to stun Early, 36-22, and end the Longhorns’ 2024 campaign.
Early finished its season with a 1-9 record, including a 0-5 mark in district, and dropped its last nine games following a season-opening 33-12 victory at Bangs in head coach Randall Case’s first season.
Dublin, with a 2-8 overall mark and 2-3 record in district, advances to the bi-district round of the playoffs to face District 3 champion Holliday (8-2) next week.
