A new website dedicated to athletics at Brownwood ISD was recently unveiled, and is now live at www.brownwoodathletics.com. “It’s going to be a more efficient and effective form of communication between coaches and parents,” said Brownwood ISD Athletic Director, Chuck Howard. “It will be a convenient way for all Brownwood Lion fans, near or far, as well as our own student body, to keep up with all things athletics at BHS.”
The new website, complete with a dedicated twitter feed (@bwdathletics) will cover sports within Brownwood ISD from 7th to 12th grade, and provides the community with a centralized location for athletic schedules, alerts for game changes, photo galleries, and more. “As our coaches become more accustomed to the system, we will post scores and or stories following each game,” noted Howard. “Prior to the beginning of each season, each sport should have a schedule, with directions to each site as well as a roster of players on each team. We will also post alerts should there be a change in the time, date or site of a game. Fans would be able to access the site from their phone and or receive alerts through email or test message.”
As the department moves over to the new website, parents are encouraged to sign up for alerts and get connected through the new system. “It is going to be a transition on our part as coaches in terms of becoming accustomed to the system, it will take some time for things to run as smoothly as we would like,” added Howard, asking that parents and the public be patient during the transition. “Also, we would like all parents and or fans to go to the website and sign up to receive alerts. It will be the choice of each individual as to whether or not they receive alerts through email or text. Text would obviously be the most efficient and expedient form of receiving alerts.”
The new website is hosted by Varsity News Netword (VNN), which currently has over 100 schools in Texas utilizing their services. “I was contacted by VNN last fall initially. I took the opportunity to view several schools websites over the course of the fall,” stated Howard. “l was impressed with the professionalism of the websites aesthetically as well as a means to effectively and efficiently distribute information.”
With the new website online, parents and fans are encouraged to visit the site and even send photos of various sports and players to help populate the photo galleries. “We are in need of parents and or fans to send us pictures of each sport so we can recognize all sports,” said Howard, noting that the department doesn’t have a dedicated photographer. “Because we don’t have a full-time photographer, or even a part-time photographer, this will present the biggest challenge.”
“We will spend this spring getting accustomed to the new system and getting information out to parents and fans,” added Howard. “I believe it will be extremely convenient for all involved.”
Parents or fans that have additional questions regarding the website or that wish to submit photos for consideration can contact Lisa Jaso in the BHS Athletic Office at: 325-646-0703 or by email at: [email protected].
