Also Saturday, Young people from throughout the Heart of Texas area are invited to experience the wonders of flight free of charge as the newly-organized Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 1205 hosts a Young Eagles flight rally at Brownwood Regional Airport.
Young Eagles flights are free of charge to all youth ages 8-17. The October 26 flight rally will be held at the Brownwood Regional Airport terminal building, 6240 Airport Rd., Brownwood, TX 76801. It is scheduled to start at 9:00 am and should finish up at 1:00 pm.
A Young Eagles flight includes a preflight “walk-around” explaining the parts of the airplane, a preflight briefing in the cockpit and a 15- to 20-minute flight over the local area, including the cities of Brownwood and Early, and Lake Brownwood. Following their flight, all Young Eagles participants receive a certificate signed by their volunteer pilot and become eligible for additional benefits, including a free EAA student membership and an online pilot ground school course.
Parent or legal guardian permission and release forms must be signed prior to each flight in person at the rally. Youth must be between the ages of 8 and 17 years old. Parents should pre-register their youth at https://yeday.org/?12066 to reserve a flight time. Due to limited pilots and aircraft, the event may not be able to accommodate walk-up participants. There are no EAA flights available for adults 18 or older at this rally. In case of inclement weather, efforts will be made to reschedule flights at a later date.
