EARLY – The confines of Longhorn Stadium continue to be unfriendly for the Early Longhorns, who dropped to 0-3 on their home turf with a 50-36 homecoming loss to the Peaster Greyhounds Friday night.
Early (1-3) trailed Peaster (3-1) by a 16-6 count after one quarter, 23-6 at halftime, and 43-14 through three periods.
The Longhorns finished with 472 total yards – 289 passing and 183 rushing – with three turnovers. The Greyhounds compiled 514 yards – 324 through the air and 190 on the ground – also with three giveaways.
Quarterback Weston Barton completed 27 of 41 passes for 289 yards with three touchdowns and two interceptions for Early. Andrew Reedy caught 18 passes for 202 yards and three touchdowns, and also rushed for 52 yards and two more scores. Cameron Love finished with 101 yards on the ground, while Ben Bleth chipped in six catches for 74 yards.
Mario Vasquez led the Longhorn defense with 11 tackles trailed by Angel Marquez with 10, Ben Morris with nine, and Brayden Schafer with eight with two for loss. Barton intercepted a pass and Bleth and Brennen Rasor recovered fumbles, while Bleth and Rhett Williams chalked up sacks.
Peaster’s Layton Kennedy threw for 286 yards and five touchdowns to pace the Greyhounds. Slayte Robertson caught five passes for 145 yards and three touchdowns, while Cade McCollough finished with three grabs for 149 yards and three scores.
Next week, the Longhorns conclude their pre-district schedule at Comanche (2-2), which was edged by Early’s district rival Tolar, 14-7, Friday night.
