EARLY – For the second consecutive week on their home turf, the Early Longhorns came out on the wrong end of the scoreboard, falling to the Junction Eagles, 49-12, Friday night.
The Longhorns (1-2) trailed unbeaten Junction (3-0) by a 7-0 count after one quarter, 28-6 at halftime and 42-6 through three periods. After yielding 12 points in a season-opening win at Bangs, Early has surrendered 90 points in two games at Longhorn Stadium.
Early produced 260 yards of total offense – 174 through the air and 86 on the ground – with one turnover.
Quarterback Weston Barton connected on 12 of 26 passes for 174 yards with a pair of scoring strikes. Andrew Reedy caught one and finished with a team-high six receptions for 119 yards, while Ben Bleth finished with three grabs for 58 yards and reached the end zone once.
On the ground, Ben Morris rushed for a team-best 58 yards followed by Cameron Love with 15, Barton with 7 and Reedy with 6 yards.
Defensively for the Longhorns, Kaeden Byrd registered 21 tackles trailed by Barton, Mario Vasquez and Rhett Williams with seven apiece, Bleth with six, and Reedy, Aaron Mendoza and Da’corrain McBride with five takedowns apiece. Barton also recorded an interception for Early.
Next week, the Longhorns play their third consecutive home game as they host Peaster (2-1), which suffered its first loss of the season Friday night to Jacksboro, 32-13.
