Work on the Camp Bowie Family Aquatic Center and the Camp Bowie Sports Complex is moving along nicely according to Brownwood City Manager Bobby Rountree, with some visible progress on the building sites.
Workers from the Fain Construction Group have started putting up the walls to the aquatic center’s bath house and the pool floor has been completely poured. Rountree said that the city is looking to have the aquatic center completed by mid-June, but that will be dependent on the weather as construction moves forward.
The sports complex project is also moving forward with ground work being the focus. Rountree noted that workers found some underground bunkers on the construction site from the original Camp Bowie from World War II.
Although the accepted bid for the sports complex was above the allotted budget for the project, the city is continuing to reduce costs in every way possible. The original bid for the project by Fain Construction was over $4 million, but the city has approved two change orders in the last month reducing the cost of the project to about $3.5 million.
