GRAHAM – The Brownwood High tennis team slipped to 2-2 on the fall season with a 14-5 road loss to Graham Saturday.
Picking up victories for Brownwood were No. 2 boys single Eric Smith (8-3 over Barron Burrows), No. 1 boys doubles team Trine Baugh and Blake Hutchins (9-7 over Hayden Burrows and Barron Burrows), and No. 2 boys doubles team Smith and Wesley Goodrich (8-2 over Silas Yoder and Brodey Mills), who all remained undefeated.
Also landing in the win column were No. 5 boys single Aiden Oplotnik (8-6 over Chris Reyes) and the mixed doubles tandem of Andre Martinez and Emory May (8-1 over Paul Andrade and Reanna Brock).
“I think we were the more talented team, but Graham is scrappy,” said Brownwood tennis head coach Dalton Hutchins. “They made us hit a lot of shots, and I don’t think we were focused enough to play long points. Unforced errors killed us today. But this team doesn’t like to lose. We’ll get back to work Monday and make sure we’re in the right mindset when we host Glen Rose on Sept. 3.”
The Glen Rose match, the next on Brownwood’s schedule, will serve as both the home and district opener.
