Betty “Sis” was born on March 6th, 1938 to Earl and Opal Epley in May, Texas. She lived majority of her life in the May community and attended May High School where she met the love of her life Adron Beck. They were married in the afternoon of January 28, 1955, “Game Day” for we know the honeymoon story of where Betty was the lead scorer of 31 points which led the Lady Tigers to a playoff victory over Blanket. Upon graduation in 1955 they lived in May until Adron was called into to service for our country in December of 1958. They began their service journey in Fort Carson in Colorado, then onto Fort Garden, Georgia for training in top secret cryptography and then transferred to Fort Mead, Maryland where they spent 2 years.
Adron and Betty moved back to Brown County where they began their careers with General Telephone and Electronics, GTE. In May of 1962 they had their first child, daughter Pamela followed by their son Kris in June of 1965. When their children became of school age Betty began her career with Early ISD where she served the school district for 25 years. Adron and Betty were faithful members of Early First Baptist Church for 40 years. Adron and Betty were on the pulpit committee with Billy and Loretta Carter, Dewitt and Bobbie Allen whom brought Brother Lowell Skaggs to Early FBC. Betty served this church in many aspects, VBS, GA’s (Girls in Action) Counselor, and Sunday School Teacher. Upon retirement they moved back to the May Community and joined the May First Baptist church where they are current members of the congregation.
During their retirement years they have enjoyed family life, ranching, water skiing, snow skiing, and many travels throughout the Caribbean.
Betty was an icon of life and enjoyed involvement in all things. In her younger years, Betty worked cattle, wrangled goats and sheep, barrel raced on her horse, Dan, she was a true Cowgirl. Betty was a student-athlete for the May Lady Tigers, and a Majorette. She competed in all sports including basketball, volleyball, tennis, and softball. In the beginning years of Earl Q Wilson arena, Betty served as the Sherrif Posse Sweetheart. Betty was a member of the Ladies State Titled Line Dance Team “The Twisters”, and was an active member of Coggin Ave BC line dancing. Betty and Adron were members of a square dance team for many years.
