An ‘Adventures in Pottery’ program will be offered for children, parents, or anyone who has a curiosity for pottery on Friday, June 14th at the Brown County Museum of History in Brownwood. Participants will learn about Native American and ancient forms of pottery, and have a fun, hands-on experience crafting a small clay pot to take home.
A special demonstration by local potter Mike Lewis will show how pottery is made on a wheel, and share his love and knowledge of the art of pottery making. “My passion for pottery began after I retired from a career as a research chemist. I loved the challenge of turning a lump of clay into a functional item using just my hands and a wheel. I now work every day in my studio and do my best to give each pot the best chance at being beautiful.”
Museum Director Kyndall Howard stated “Mr. Lewis will explain how different clays, glazes, and firing techniques change or affect how each piece of pottery turns out. This is one of the many Museum programs which supports the arts and exploring their historical connections and we are excited to be able to share that with you today.”
