On Tuesday, June 4th, 2024, multiple agencies, including the Brownwood Police and Fire Departments, Brown County Sheriff’s Office, Early Police, Lifeguard EMS, and BISD personnel, will be conducting (Operation Safe Lion) a full-scale active shooter exercise at the Coggin Elementary Campus followed by a student/parent reunification at Brownwood High School.
The exercise will be an active threat-based scenario. The wide-ranging Emergency Response Drill will be a large, coordinated training exercise within the school district. Several emergency scenarios will be played out in real-time, utilizing school district personnel, volunteers, local law enforcement, emergency response personnel, and Hendrick Medical Center employees.
Some roadways near the campus will be barricaded off and there will be many emergency vehicles at and near the school campuses during the exercise.
We appreciate our local law enforcement agencies and the emergency response personnel involved in the planning and coordination of this detailed exercise. Our top priority remains the safety and security of our students and staff.
