The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Monday:
On Sunday, May 5, 2024, at approximately 6:40 a.m., officers were dispatched to a residence in the 900 block of Melwood St.
When officers arrived, they learned that the residence was occupied by two female roommates. The boyfriend of one of the females, 33-year-old Joel Jay Slayton, has off and on stayed at the residence but was not currently identified as an actual resident.
Slayton and the female roommate argued off and on during the day (Saturday, May 4th). In the evening time, Slayton entered the roommate’s bedroom with a beer bottle in hand, to assault her. The roommate defended herself, prompting Slayton to leave the residence for some time.
Both females reported that they repaired the back door of the residence which was a previous point of forced entry by Slayton. Just prior to phoning the police, Slayton returned to the residence and kicked in the back door again, causing damage. As officers were speaking with the female victims, another officer located Slayton, still on the property.
At the conclusion of the investigation, Slayton was arrested and charged with Aggravated Assault w/a Deadly Weapon and Criminal Mischief.
