KINGSLAND – The Brownwood Lions made sure to finish the UIL Class 4A boys golf state tournament better than they started as they climbed their way up to an eighth place team performance Tuesday at Legends Golf Course.

In 11th place after tallying a 319 Monday, the Lions followed a 314 Tuesday for a 633 composite score, which left them behind state champion Bridgeport (589), runner-up Wimberley (607), third-place Andrews (611), fourth-place Bullard (613), fifth-place Fredericksburg (618), sixth-place Mabank (623) and seventh-place Livingston (626).

Hudson Reagan recorded the low score for Brownwood as he answered an opening 81 Monday with a closing 74 Tuesday for a 155 total, good for a tie for 28th place. Caleb Modawell added a 158 as he posted consecutive rounds of 79, while Sir Bubba Jones contributed a 159 with a 81 Monday and a 78 Tuesday. Cobe Walker notched a 161 total as he started with a 78 and ended with an 83, while Peyton Sharp chipped in a 170 with back-to-back rounds of 85.

Wimberley’s Jaxon Donaldson captured the individual gold medal with a two-day total of 136 behind consecutive rounds of 68, followed by silver medalist Zach Kehoe of Bridgeport with a 144, and bronze medalist Konner Iglehart of Monahans (145), who won a six-player playoff on the first extra hole.

The Lions reached the UIL Class 4A boys golf state tournament for the second consecutive year, as in 2023 they finished sixth with a 621 team score at Legends Golf Course in Kingsland. Brownwood placed third in the Region I-4A tournament at Shadow Hills Golf Course in Lubbock both years to qualify for a state, a feat that had not been accomplished by the program in over 30 years.
