The Brownwood Community Library is hosting its second annual “Reading for the Roses – a Kentucky Derby Party” this Saturday, May 4. The event will be held at the Brownwood Coliseum at 3:00 p.m., complete with a southern buffet, jazz band, and big-screen televisions to watch the 150th annual Kentucky Derby horse race, known as “the most exciting two-minutes in sports!’
The Party will also feature a raffle, live and silent auctions, and contests for Best Hat and Best Bow Tie. (Derby attire is optional.)
While the Community Library does receive funds from the Cities of Brownwood and Early and from Brown County, those funds are not sufficient to cover all expenses of the library, including community programs, services, education, and staff requirements. This Kentucky Derby Party is an important fundraiser for the support of the Library.
Last year’s party sold out quickly and was very popular. This year’s party, in the larger venue of the Coliseum, can accommodate more people. Tickets may be purchased through Wednesday, May 1st at 12:00 noon at the Library (600 Carnegie St.) or online at www.libraryderby.com.
