Vassar, Myers to represent Early at UIL state track and field meet

ABILENE – The Region I-3A track and field meet concluded Monday at Abilene Christian University, and Early High School will be represented in a pair of events at the UIL Class 3A Track and Field State Championships based on the performances.

Freshman Jamie Vassar, who broke her own school record in the girls shot put, finished second at regionals with a best effort of 40-9.5 to punch a ticket to Austin.

Joining her will be junior Camden Myers, who qualified in the boys high jump with a second-place leap of 6-4.

The UIL Class 3A Track and Field State Championships will take place Thursday, May 2 at Austin’s Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas.

Complete Early results from the Region I-3A meet are as follows:

  • Jamie Vassar second in the girls shot put (40-9.5)
  • Camden Myers in the boys high jump (6-4)
  • Ellie Shea fourth in the girls discus (121-5)
  • Andrew Caten fourth in the boys long jump (22-0)
  • Grey Pruett fourth in the girls high jump (5-0)
  • Girls 4×100 of Haley Eason Ronni McClain Kirstan King Aliyah Harlan, fifth (54.1)
  • Matty Boswell sixth in the girls 100-meter hurdles (15.82)
  • Karsen Floyd eighth in the boys 200 meters (24.13)
  • Kelcy Simpson ninth in the girls high jump (5-0)
  • Dylan Brame 11th in the girls discus (116-8)
  • Jenna Hataway 14th in the girls long jump (15-7.75)
