Saturday’s heavy rain around the state caused delays or postponements for several of the UIL regional track and field meets, including in Abilene where Early is competing at the Region I-3A meet, and Denton where Zephyr, Blanket and Brookesmith are in action at the Region III-A meet.
Meets will resume Monday at 1 p.m. at Abilene Christian and at 5 p.m. at the University of North Texas, but Zephyr and Early have already earned a handful of state berths.
Zephyr leads the way currently with three state entrants as Haley Eason finished first in the girls triple jump (34-9) and second in the girls long jump (16-8), while Ronni McClain placed first in the girls pole vault (10-0).
For Early, Jamie Vassar finished second in the girls shot put (40-9.5) and Camden Myers also came in second in the boys high jump (6-4).
The Lady Bulldogs have also amassed 36 points and lead in the team standings at the Region III-A meet
More information, and additional state qualifiers, can be found here on BrownwoodNews.com after the conclusion of Monday’s action.
The UIL Class 3A Track and Field State Championships will take place Thursday, May 2 at Austin’s Myers Stadium on the campus of the University of Texas, while the 1A meet is set for Saturday, May 4.
