Floyd Jenkins, Jr., a dedicated researcher and beloved member of the community, passed away on April 18, 2024, in San Angelo, Texas. He was born on November 24, 1933, in Coleman County, Texas to Floyd Jenkins, Sr. and Ovie Ivy Kelley Jenkins.

Floyd’s passion for animal and crop research led him to a fulfilling career at Texas A & M where he worked tirelessly for 42 years before retiring in 2001. His dedication and hard work made a lasting impact on the agricultural community in Balmorhea, Pecos, and San Angelo.

Aside from his professional achievements, Floyd found joy in various hobbies such as woodworking, carpentry, fishing, and hunting. He was a member of the Lion’s Club and served as the president and coach for the girls’ softball association in Pecos.  One of Floyd’s proudest accomplishments was planting a large organic garden annually that not only provided for his family but also shared its bounty with the neighborhood.

Floyd is survived by his loving children, Sonja Turner and husband Wayne of Cedar Hill; Randall Jenkins and wife Janis of San Angelo. He is also survived by his sister Claris Fay Billings of Coleman; grandchildren Zachary Preslar of Temple, Baylee Jenkins of Lubbock, Logan Jenkins of San Angelo; great-granddaughter Jolynn Rhea of Covington; along with numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Floyd, Sr. and Ovie Ivy Jenkins; his beloved wife Kelsie “Kay” Jenkins; and his brother Wayne Jenkins.

Family and friends are invited to a funeral service to honor and remember Floyd on 2:00 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Stevens Funeral Home Chapel, 400 West Pecan Street in Coleman.  Burial will be in the Coleman City Cemetery.  Services are entrusted to Stevens Funeral Home.

Floyd Jenkins, Jr. will be dearly missed by all who knew him.  The family requests that memorial donations may be made to the Coleman Senior Center or their Meals on Wheels program, P. O. Box 785, Coleman, Texas 76834.
