DIAMOND ROUNDUP: May baseball, Bangs and Early teams all notch victories

BANGS – The Bangs Lady Dragons secured at least a share of a second straight District 6-2A softball championship with a 10-0 home victory over Christoval Friday.

Bangs (17-8, 9-0) scored three runs in the first inning, two in the second, one in the fourth, and four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning.

The Lady Dragons collected 14 hits, with four going for extra bases. Cheyenne Rush tallied three hits, including a home run and a double, with two RBIs; Abby Wolf and Julianna Ethridge recorded a pair of hits and two RBIs; Neeley Bradley finished with two hits, including a home run, and one RBI; Mattisyn Taylor also added a pair of hits and an RBI; Jadyn Miller and Stormy Stringer each contributed one hit and one RBI; and Emily Baker added a hit as well.

In the circle, Wolf tossed all five innings and gave up six hits with four strikeouts and no walks.

Bangs Dragons 9, Miles 2

BANGS – The Bangs Dragons avenged an earlier District 7-2A baseball loss this week to the Miles Bulldogs and moved into sole possession of second place in the league standings with a 9-2 victory Friday night.

The Dragons (13-8, 7-2) trailed 2-0 after one inning but grabbed a 6-2 advantage in the bottom of the second. Bangs tacked on a solo run in the fourth inning and two more in the fifth.

The eight-hit performance for Bangs featured three from Hunter Crowell, who drove in two runs, and two from Skylar Minshew, who also knocked in a pair. Kenny Cole and Brayden Gatlin both added a hit and an RBI, while Hunter Newton chipped in a single as well.

On the mound, Kade Minshew and Zack Ferguson teamed up to yield two runs – none earned – on four hits with six strikeouts and four walks. The Dragons committed just one error.

May Tigers 6, Gorman 1


MAY – The May Tigers chalked up a 6-1 victory over the Gorman Panthers Friday to improve to 7-1 on the season.

The Tigers struck for two runs in the second inning and four in the third, while giving up a lone run in the top of the sixth.

May finished with seven hits – two each by Lane Goodson and Hagan Hester and one apiece by Cayson Dail, Brody Stice and Kayden Psencik. Goodson led the way with two RBIs while Psencik drove in a run as well.

On the mound, Goodson and Dail combined to give up one earned run on four hits with seven strikeouts and nine walks.

Early Longhorns 5, Millsap 2

MILLSAP – The Early Longhorns moved to 6-15-1 on the season and 3-7 in District 8-3A baseball competition with a 5-2 road victory over Millsap Friday.

Early scored all of its runs in the top of the first inning, while Millsap tallied two runs in the bottom of the fifth.

The Longhorns finished with four hits – singles by Jordan Campos, Ethan Pallette, Weston Barton and Ki Houston. Barton drove in two runs while Houston notched an RBI.

On the mound, Kamden Gamblin and Landen Brandstetter teamed up to yield two runs – none earned – on five hits with seven strikeouts and two walks.

Early Lady Horns 21, Millsap 13

MILLSAP – The Early Lady Horns improved to 7-18 overall and 4-8 in District 8-3A softball action with a 21-13 road victory over Millsap Friday.

The Lady Horns led 4-0 after one inning and 6-1 after two innings, then trailed 9-6 after three innings and 9-8 after four. Early regained a 12-9 edge in the fifth, which grew to 16-9 in the sixth inning, and the two teams combined for nine runs in the final inning.

Early collected 20 hits, with four going for extra bases. Marissa Reedy led the way with four hits, including a home run and a double, and three RBIs; Jamie Vassar added four hits, including a double, with four RBIs; Stoney Laughlin tallied three hits and two RBIs; Aubrey Greaves tallied two hits and three RBIs; Gabby Leal notched two hits with a pair of RBIs; Emilee Wallace collected a pair of hits; Katlyn Cates recorded one hit and one RBI; and Aleeya McCombs and Leslee Beard both chalked up hits.

In the circle, Beard and Sydney Greaves combined to allow four earned runs on eight hits with four strikeouts and five walks, while the Early defense committed seven errors.
