Considering a knee replacement? Join the Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood (HMCB) surgical team and orthopedic surgeons, James Deal, MD, John Masterson, MD, Stephen Roberts, MD, and Marlen Strefling MD, as they share educational information about a knee replacement. The program will be held on Thursday, April 18, from 5:30-6:30 p.m. in the first floor Surgery Waiting Area.
The program will consist of a general overview of a knee replacement and will include the necessary decisions to be made and the steps to be taken prior to surgery and post-surgery.
Determining, the “right time,” for a knee replacement is a struggle for many. The surgeons will discuss common signs and symptoms of knee pain and the causes including an injury, osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. They will focus on several non-surgical options to consider prior to making the decision to have knee surgery.
If determined it is time for a knee replacement, an evaluation must be completed by your orthopedic surgeon. The results will help to determine if you will benefit from less invasive and non-surgical treatment options or determine it is time for surgery.
Once the decision of surgery is made, your surgeon will recommend you attend a Joint Venture education class that is hosted by the HMCB surgical services team. The class will provide you a step by step process for the best outcome. You will understand what to expect before surgery, during the hospital stay and the recovery process. The goal is to provide you the best plan of care for a successful surgery and recovery with less pain and improved mobility for a better quality of life.
