Brownwood High School choir members traveled to Cleburne High School Saturday, to compete in the first round of auditions toward qualifying for the TMEA Small School All-State Choir.
Twenty BHS choir students participated in the auditions that required students to learn three pieces of music, including songs in Latin, English, and Persian. Each student sang individually for a panel of five judges and was given a score for their performance.
The top twelve students from each voice part represented were selected to advance to the next audition. These twelve students were then ranked, beginning with “1st chair,” according to the judges scoring. Listed below are sixteen members of the BHS A Cappella Choir that were chosen to advance to the next audition, along with their ranking in the sections:
Sadie Perez (2nd chair – Soprano 1), Mary McIver (11th chair – Soprano 1), Shelbi Winstead (6th chair – Soprano 2), Abby Ibarra (2nd chair – Alto 1), McKenna McDonald (3rd chair – Alto 1), Shannon McNeill (6th chair – Alto 1), Kylee McCoy (6th chair – Alto 2), Jack Robinson (5th chair – Tenor 1), Albert Nguyen (1st chair – Tenor 2), Caleb Bostick (3rd chair – Tenor 2), Cade Patteson (6th chair – Tenor 2), Dashawn Johnson (9th chair – Tenor 2), Robert Dick (11th chair – Bass 1), Kalin Young (1st chair – Bass 2), Chevy Robertson (2nd chair – Bass 2), Bradlee Brackett (5th chair – Bass 2).
“Congratulations to these students for their hard work,” said BHS Choir Director, Cindy Franklin. “These students will begin preparing this week for the next round of auditions to be held in October. Selections for the next round will include English, Latin, and Czechoslovakian.”
