The Texas Department of Public Safety issued a preliminary report on Friday regarding a two-vehicle accident that took place in Comanche County and claimed one life.
The accident took place at 7:20 p.m. Wednesday, March 13 on FM 1496, six miles east of De Leon. The preliminary investigation revealed a 2003 Harley Davidson Sportster motorcycle was traveling north on FM 1496. A 2000 Freightliner truck tractor towing 2015 MAS semi-trailer was traveling south on FM 1496. The driver of the motorcycle failed to drive in a single lane, crossing into the oncoming southbound lane approaching the Freightliner, which attempted to take evasive action and steered to the right, away from the motorcycle. The motorcycle struck the Freightliner on the left side of the towed trailer.
James Dean Roden, 56, from De Leon, the driver of the motorcycle, was pronounced dead at Texas Health Hospital, 9:16 p.m. Wednesday, March 13 by Justice of the Peace David Martin.
