The Brownwood Fire Department issued the following press release Wednesday morning:

The Brownwood Fire Department was called to the 1425 Avenue A at 3:35 a.m. Wednesday, March 13 for the report of a structure fire. Upon arrival there was a large amount of fire showing from the rear of the structure. The main body of the fire was knocked down using hose lines. The fire had extended into the attic and firefighters had to use ground ladders to ventilate the attic and complete the extinguishment of the fire. Overhaul was performed throughout the structure checking for fire extension. The residents were asleep at the time of the fire and were alerted of the fire by a neighbor. Two occupants were displaced with the assistance of the Red Cross. There were no reported injuries. The structure sustained extensive fire damage, estimated at $65,000 and the Brownwood Planning and Development Department was notified and will be performing a follow-up with the property owner.

Chief 9, Chief 92, Chief 93, Engine 9, Rescue 9, and Engine 92 responded to the fire with assistance from the Early Fire Department, Lifeguard Ambulance, Brownwood Police, the Red Cross, Atmos, and Oncor.

It took 14 minutes to extinguish the fire and units were on scene 1 hour and 39 minutes.
