CHINA SPRING – Faced with a chance to move into a tie for third place in the District 5-4A soccer standings, the Brownwood Lady Lions came up short for the second time this season against the China Spring Lady Cougars.
Following a scoreless tie in regulation, the Lady Lions were outscored 3-2 in penalty kicks in a shootout. Reagan Ratliff and Rylie Schaffer converted the goals for Brownwood in the extra session.
The loss drops Brownwood to 12-7-1 overall and 4-5 in district action with three matches to play, while China Spring improved 12-5-3 and 6-3 for the season.
Next up for the Lady Lions is a 5:30 p.m. Tuesday visit to second-place Stephenville (12-2-2, 8-1).
