BANGS – The Bangs Dragons will be under the direction of their third head football coach in three seasons in 2024, as earlier this week Jason Cole was reassigned from his position of athletic director and head football coach after one season, according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football.
BrownwoodNews.com attempted to reach out to Bangs ISD Superintendent Dr. Josh Martin Friday, who was not available.
Cole posted a 2-8 record as head coach in 2023, which followed one season at offensive coordinator under former head coach Kyle Maxfield at Bangs. Cole previously served as head coach for eight seasons at Thrall and Quanah. In nine years as a head coach, Cole has compiled a 45-43 record with seven trips to the playoffs.
The Dragons will be competing in the revamped District 5-2A Division I in football the next two years battling against Coleman, De Leon, Hamilton, Hico and Ballinger for postseason berths.
In basketball and spring sports, Bangs will remain in District 8-2A along with Coleman, Colorado City, Miles, Roscoe, and Winters, while Ballinger has been added to the mix.
For the volleyball program, the Lady Dragons are moving to District 5-2A and will be joined by Hamilton, Hico, Coleman and De Leon.
Cole said when realignment was revealed on Feb. 1, “As far as Bangs goes, we feel like they treated us well and we’re in districts where we can compete. It was nothing but positive for us.”
BrownwoodNews.com will provide more information on the decision, Cole’s future with the school district, and the what Bangs ISD is looking for in its new athletic director and head football coach, when the information is made available.
