Woodland Heights second-grade students were on hand Thursday for Stars of Texas art demonstrations by June Musick (Gouache), Ginger Test (Watercolor), and Tony Brown (3D Acrylic Paintings). The trio of artists will be hand until 3 p.m. today at The Depot Civic and Cultural Center.
The demonstrations – sponsored by TexasBank – continue through Friday. Artists are scheduled from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday are Cathie Taylor (Oil Paintings), Joseph Stanley (Pour Paint) and June Musick (Gouache Portraits).
In addition, the Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit will feature artwork from across the state and will be open for viewing by the public at the Depot Civic & Cultural Center, at no charge, from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday.
Also Saturday, the Stars of Texas Paint-Off Competition will take place as Work must be completed on-site (or at a designated plein-air painting site) within 6 hours.
Registration is 9:30 -10 a.m., at the Brownwood Depot Ballroom. Entry fee is $20, a light lunch will be included, and those ages 18 and over must compete.
Each February the Brownwood Civic and Cultural Center hosts the annual Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit. This juried exhibit runs for two weeks and culminates with the presentation of over $5,000 in prizes. The Stars of Texas Juried Art Exhibit was conceived in 1999 in order to showcase the newly restored Santa Fe Depot.
