Every two years we do it again – it’s called “redistricting”. The Brownwood Lions are now classified for the next two years in Texas High School sports. Now in basketball and other sports, they‘re in a district that’s got some other people in it. This is strictly football and that’s what most people pay attention to.
Here we go. This is for the 2024-2025 season. In Brownwood’s district they’re in with Marble Falls, with Burnet, with Lampasas and who else, Stephenville. So, it’s a five team district. A lot of people were kind of in shock when we didn’t go back to West Texas. I’m really kind of excited that we’re not but I’ll save that for another time. We go in with these teams and we already know who we are playing for non-district: Abilene Wylie, at Wall, Glen Rose and La Vega here, at China Spring and a bout with Ingleside (down by Corpus) in San Antonio.
District starts at Lampasas then we have our “bye” week. We resume District with Burnet here, Stephenville there, and Marble Falls here. Then – the playoffs.
I looked at three basic things when they released all the information last week. Three things: First, who are we going to be in with? Second, what region are we going to be in because there is a difference in those regions. Number three – I can’t think of – I don’t even know what it was but the main thing is what region are you in? Now, this is crazy to me because we’ve been out with Andrews, Lubbock Estacado, all those and you knew what region we were going to be in. So when I found out we were in with Stephenville off to the East and then with our other competitors, Lampasas, Burnet, Marble Falls to the Southeast it was apparent the next two years location wise would be very different. We’re in Region 1 – 1? Are you kidding me? No, it’s the truth. We are in Region 1, the same one we were in last year. How do you figure that? How does that make any sense? It’s the U I L! It doesn’t have to make sense. They just put it on your plate and you eat it.
So, Brownwood is set – Region 1. How good is our new district people ask me? Stephenville, REALLY good. Brownwood, really good, I think. Burnet good. Lampasas, good. Marble Falls, not. It’s a good, tough district and it will be a challenge for anyone to win it. But it is going to be a good district.
My feeble mind cannot handle too many teams at one time, but taking a quick glance at the rest of them in this area, I think everybody moved up a notch in toughness. I’m not talking about them necessarily being tough, although I think all of them are, but they moved up in the degree of competition. It’s going to be very tough competition – very tough.
So, I’m looking forward to Brownwood’s new District in Region 1, District 4-4A. It’s going to be tough – Brownwood, Stephenville, and then Burnet, Marble Falls, and Lampasas. By the way, this may shock you but I’m already excited about next year. I think it’s going to be a good year for Brownwood, a good District, and it ought to be a lot of fun. I’m looking forward to it and I hope you are too.
Until next time, so long everybody.
