Family and friends of Ray Martinez will be hosting a benefit day on Saturday, August 9, 2014 from 9 a.m. – 8 p.m. at the Bert Massey Sports Complex in Brownwood, Texas. Events for the benefit day include a kickball tournament, horseshoe and washer tournaments, brisket plate sales, and a silent auction. Proceeds from the fundraisers will help pay medical expenses while Ray continues his battle against cancer. Ray receives medical treatment in San Antonio.
Ray is a Brownwood resident who graduated from Brownwood High School and attended Howard Payne University where he was a member of the HPU Yellow Jacket baseball team. Ray has long served Brownwood and surrounding communities by his large involvement in referring and umpiring both local school sports and city league sports. Ray is the son of Raul Martinez and Rosa Perez, the brother of Lydia Martinez Bueno, and is engaged to Joey Patino. (Ray and Raul are pictured top left.)
Organizers are still accepting kickball teams for the tournament and donations for the silent auction.
