HOOPS ROUNDUP: Zephyr, May squads earn district sweeps

ZEPHYR – The Zephyr Lady Bulldogs secured their 20th victory of the season and remained undefeated against District 18-A competition with a 62-40 home victory over Blanket Tuesday.

Zephyr led 20-12 after one period, 36-21 at intermission, and 53-28 after three quarters of play.

The Lady Bulldogs (20-3, 9-0) received 18 points from Avery Dozier, 16 from Cali McRee, 15 from Aliyah Harlan, five from Haley Eason, four from Nae’J Payne, and two points each from McKenna Cash and Ronni McClain.

Karli Kinkade scored 18 points for Blanket and Shyla Woodard added 13, while Lexi French and Mattie Lewallen chipped in four points apiece.

Zephyr Bulldogs 44, Blanket Tigers 36

ZEPHYR – The Zephyr Bulldogs held off the Blanket Tigers, 44-36, Tuesday night to kept their flawless District 13-A record intact.

Zephyr (20-6, 7-0) trailed Blanket 9-8 after one period, led 19-15 at halftime, and took a 32-23 advantage into the fourth quarter.

The Bulldogs were sparked by 14 points from Wyatt Stevens, 13 from Cooper Walls, eight from Reese Hamm, four each from Hunter Davidson and Rhett Williams, and two points from Karson Floyd.

Blanket’s scorers were not available.

May Lady Tigers 66, Rising Star 19

MAY – The May Lady Tigers moved to 20-7 overall and 5-1 against District 13-A competition with a 66-19 home victory over Rising Star Tuesday.

May was in front 20-4 after one quarter, 39-13 at halftime, and 54-15 through three periods.

Jordyn Gerhardt scored 20 points for the Lady Tigers followed by 15 from Chloe Lord, 10 from Kenleigh Williford, eight from Mia Musick, seven from Kenlyn King, and two each from McKenna Landes, Rebekah Roberts and Estrella Bustamante.

May Tigers 69, Rising Star 52

MAY – The May Tigers improved to 3-1 in District 13-A action and 16-7 on the season with a 69-52 home win over Rising Star Tuesday.

The Tigers trailed 20-15 after one quarter, were tied at 30 at halftime, and carried a 51-36 advantage into the fourth period.

May received 16 points from Mikey Scheriger, 12 from Jackson Lusk, 10 from Zack Martin, nine each from JD White and Ben Harrell, five from Kaden Watkins, three each from Brody Stice and Cayson Dail, and two points from Ace Koethler.

Brock 41, Early Longhorns 30

EARLY – The Early Longhorns tumbled to 3-5 in District 8-3A action with a 41-30 home loss to league leader Brock Tuesday night.

The Longhorns were down 18-1 after one quarter, 23-7 at halftime and 33-24 heading to the fourth period.

Kamden Gamblin led Early with 13 points trailed by Rohyn Price with 10, Dalton Adams with three, and Jacob McDaniel and Weston Barton with two points each.

Brock 52, Early Lady Horns 24

EARLY – The Early Lady Horns slipped to 3-7 against District 8-3A foes with a 52-24 home loss to district co-leader Brock Tuesday night.

The Lady Horns faced a 10-6 deficit after the first quarter, 21-12 at halftime, and 37-15 heading to the fourth period.

Lindsey Bastardo finished with a team-best six points for Early followed by Dakota Barksdale with five, Jenna Hataway with four, Gabby Benson and Jamie Vasser with three each and Cali Vargas with one point.
