Norita Hallum, age 88, of Brownwood passed away Sunday, December 31, 2023, at a local nursing home.
Graveside Services for Norita will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, January 6, 2024, at Eastlawn Memorial Park in Early, Tx with Rev. Doug House officiating. Visitation will be held 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at Blaylock Funeral Home, prior to graveside service. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Norita was born June 1, 1935, in Brownwood, Texas to William Sam White, Sr. and Inola Kee White. She graduated from Brownwood High School and attended Howard Payne University. She married James A Hallum, Jr. on September 9, 1954, and they were married for 62 years.
Norita and James owned and operated Hallum Floral and Gifts up until health issues forced their retirement in 2015. They were also interested in African Violets and grew many different varieties. Norita also enjoyed dollmaking; specifically, the true reproduction of dolls from 1870-1900’s.
She was also a past president of the Woman’s Club of Brownwood. She was a member of Union Presbyterian Church where she served in several capacities and taught Sunday school. In addition, she taught art at Cross Classical Academy.
Norita is survived by her son, James White Hallum of Salt Lake City; her daughter Melinda Oliver and husband Wiley Oliver of Waco; granddaughter Kat Oliver and wife Paige Oliver of Dallas; brothers in law Robert Hallum and wife Lynda; Richard Hallum and wife Sarah, and Glenn Hallum and wife Cheryl; sister-in-law Phyllis Mahan, and several nieces and nephews.
Norita was preceded in death by her husband, two infant sons, her parents and her brother, William Sam White, Jr.
