I figure since we are celebrating the holidays, I’m going to give you a Bible verse or two. The book is Luke chapter 2 and it’s verses, 16, 17, and 18. In these verses, the story goes this way. “They hurried out and they found Mary, Joseph and the baby who was lying in the manger. When they had seen Him, they spread the word concerning what had been told them about this baby. All who heard it were amazed at what the shepherds said to them.”
I don’t know about you, but this story motivates me. The baby Jesus has been born and it’s going to be a couple of years before the wise men find him, so basically there is Mom, Dad, Jesus, and some animals and some of these shepherd guys. The thing that hit me is that I think I could have been a shepherd. I don’t think I could fill any other position anywhere back in those days, but here you have some shepherds who saw what they saw and they believed what they saw. I thought, you know what, I couldn’t do the job of any of those people back then except maybe for those shepherds. It says they hurried off and found Mary and Joseph. It doesn’t say how fast they were, but they hurried off. Believe it or not, I actually have moved pretty good when I’m in a hurry. They found Mary and Joseph and they found the baby who was lying in the manger. When they did, guess what, they had seen him and they spread the word concerning what had been told about this baby. The angels had told the shepherds everything they needed to know and the Bible says they hurried off and they spread the word. You know how you do that – at the coffee shop or where you work, you know how– but they did spread the word and that’s what we’re given the opportunity to do. But hurry!
So, they told people about the baby. All of those who heard them were amazed at what the shepherds said to them. Isn’t that something? You know, there is absolutely no part of this story where you couldn’t jump in. It said that they ran, or they hurried, and we can all hurry.
Even us old people can hurry. Then, it says all they did was go as fast as they could, and they found people and they told them about Jesus. Most of us can do the same thing. Can’t we?
We may have an opportunity today, or tomorrow or sometime during the holidays or just some other time in the future – just tell people about Jesus. Happy Holidays!
Until next time, so long everybody.
