The Howard Payne University women’s basketball team jumped out to an early lead but the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor claimed the league game 83-59 in the end Thursday evening in the Brownwood Coliseum.
Anna Beamesderfer led Howard Payne with 13 points on 6 of 9 shooting followed by Tyra Oliver and Trynadee Greenwell with 11 points each. Howard Payne started the game strong building a 20-8 advantage with three minutes left in the first quarter. Mary Hardin-Baylor responded with a 27 point second and a 26 point third period. Leading 70-46 going into the fourth, both teams played even in the final period for the 83-59 UMHB final. The Lady Jackets were outrebounded 52-34 in the game and also lost the turnover battle 23-13. UMHB was led by Arieona Rosborough with 28 points and Kaitlyn Kollmorgan with 14 points and 10 rebounds. Howard Payne is now 5-6 overall and 1-4 in American Southwest Conference action. UMHB stands at 8-1 overall and 4-0 in league play. The Lady Jackets will play again on Saturday at home versus Concordia University Texas at 1:00 pm. |
