ABILENE – The Howard Payne Yellow Jackets chalked up their first American Southwest Conference basketball victory of the season Saturday, edging the McMurry WarHawks, 104-100.
The Yellow Jackets (6-5, 1-3) shot 52 percent (38 of 73) from the floor, including 48 percent (10 of 21) from the three-point arc, while also sinking 75 percent (18 of 24) of their free throws.
Jarod Johnson and Hudson Johnson led the way with 20 point each folowed by Armonie Ramey with 17, Luke Whidbee with 12, Myles Brown with 10, Riley Fornerette with seven, Carter May with six, Chase Glasper with five, Ben Phillip with three, and Kaeden Crawford and Willie Everline with two points apiece.
McMurry (4-4, 0-3) hit 47 percent (37 of 79) of its shots, 27 percent (10 of 37) of its treys, and 89 percent (16 of 18) of its free throws.
Coco Rose scored a game-high 40 points for McMurry trailed by 17 from Elias Garcia and 12 from Tristan Holden.
The Jackets and Lady Jackets (5-5, 1-3), who fell 69-63 to McMurry, host Mary Hardin-Baylor at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.
