Walter “Eddie” Edward Oliver Jr., 79, of Brownwood, Texas passed away Thursday, November 23, 2023. Friends and family are invited to come by Heartland Funeral Home Wednesday, November 29, 2023 to view the tribute video and sign the register book anytime during the day. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Thursday, November 30, 2023 in the Winchell Cemetery with Art Woodcox officiating.
Eddie was born September 6, 1944 in Brownwood, Texas to Walter Edward Sr. and Mildred Inez (Adams) Oliver. He graduated as Valedictorian of his class from Brookesmith high school and received a Bachelor of Science from Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. Eddie married Kay Elliott June 3, 1969 and they began a life together that blessed them with a son, Shane Oliver. Eddie joined the United States Navy and served his country in the Vietnam War. He served in Chu Lai & DaNang, Vietnam and was awarded the Naval Achievement Medal with Combat “V” for meritorious service during combat operations. Eddie was appointed by Governor George Bush to serve on a committee to ensure appropriate treatment of veterans by employers. Eddie managed the local Texas Workforce Commission office for many years. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved hunting, fishing and being on his land in Mercury, Texas. He was extremely generous to those around him, loyal to his family and a loving husband, father and Papaw. His granddaughters always knew “No, means ask Papaw”.
Eddie is survived by his wife, Kay Oliver of Brownwood; son, Shane Oliver and wife Ranita of Winchell; granddaughters, Shayna Oliver and Carley Oliver of Winchell; and many friends.
Eddie was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Terry Eugene Oliver.
