At today’s meeting of the Brown County Commissioners Court, approval was given to a special election for the position of Justice of the Peace, Precinct One. The JP1 job was recently vacated by the resignation of Justice of the Peace Doug Hurt, with three years remaining in the current term. The Commissioners voted to fill the position with a special election on November 5, 2024, with the primary election on March 5, 2024.
The filing period for candidates for this job will be November 11 through December 11, 2023. If interested in running for Justice of the Peace, Precinct One, more information can be obtained at the Brown County Elections Office at 613 North Fisk. The Commissioners said they will consider at a future meeting whether or not to appoint someone to fill the duties of JP1 until the election.
In other business, the Commissioners agreed to purchase a new bottom dump trailer for $49,345. The new trailer will be a 40-foot 2024 CTS Pack Mule trailer to be purchased from Bruckner’s Truck Sales in Abilene. Precinct One currently has two bottom dump trailers, one of which was declared surplus and will be listed for sale on Govdeals.com.
Also the Commissioners agreed to take no action on a burn ban, leaving the current No Burn Ban in place.
