GRAND PRAIRIE – The Zephyr Bulldogs finished fourth at the Region III-A boys cross country meet Monday at Lynn Creek Park to earn the final berth from the region in the UIL Class A cross country state championships, slated for 10:40 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3 at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock.
The Bulldogs generated 91 points Monday, which trailed only Slidell (73 points), Sulphur Bluff (87), and Cumby Miller Grove (88), and edged out fifth-place Saltillo (103 points).
Eli Williams led the charge for Zephyr in third place overall with a time of 16:55.93 followed by Jim Evetts (10th, 17:56.21), Aaron Fagan (14th, 18:05), Riley McCuller (21st, 18:33.63), Cash Whisenhunt (64th, 20:52.96), Reese Hamm (81st, 21:43.87) and Cooper Walls (104th, 23:28.43).
The Lady Bulldogs came in 12th as a team with 272 points as Avery Dozier finished 15th overall in a time of 13:25.16 trailed by Madison McClain (33rd, 13:59.92), Kristan Kigan (59th, 14:45.4), Bella Baker (118th, 18:38.08), Bethany Blair (125th, 19:52.22) and Kayde Beard (126th, 20:03.07).
Also competing at the Region III-A meet were the Brookesmith Lady Mustangs, who placed 14th as a team with 333 points.
Running for the Lady Mustangs were Brooklyn Haby (53rd, 14:35.79), Harley Gilliam (71st, 15:11.27), Nevaeh Neith (86th, 15:39.25), Ameriah Balleza (113th, 18:02.14), Jordan Chumley (114th, 18:08.01) and Tierney Burns (115th, 18:09.03).
Blanket Lady Tiger Lexi French also took part in the regional meet and came in 28th place in a time of 13:50.19.
On the boys side, the Brookesmith Mustangs placed 18th as a team with 514 points.
Competitors for the Mustangs were Mathew Chambers (117th, 24:33.46), Devin Keith (120th, 24:55.07), Orgil Jargalsaikhan (123rd, 25:29.34), Isaac Haby (125th, 25:46.64), Gavin Burchett (136th, 29:18.55), and Chandler Moreno (139th, 30:48.97).
