Juanita Reed Parsons

Juanita Reed Parsons, age 96, passed away October 18, 2023, in Brownwood. The family will host an informal time of visiting and a celebration of Juanita’s life on Wednesday, October 25, at 1:00 PM, at Section Hand Steakhouse, in Brownwood.

Juanita was born in Cherokee County, Texas, on November 25, 1926, the daughter of Baynerd and Ella Reed.

After graduating from Rusk High School in 1943, she attended Texas State College for Women at Denton and graduated with a degree in Elementary Education. She married Troy Parsons in 1950 and taught throughout Texas at Lometa, Austin, Leander, retiring from Copperas Cove School District. Upon retirement, she and Troy relocated to Marfa, Texas and continued ranching until 2009 when they moved to Brownwood to be closer to family.

Juanita is survived by her son, W. Reed Parsons; daughter, Monette Burke and her husband Steve of San Saba; grandsons, Cornell Burke and his wife Amanda of Wichita Falls, Hugh Burke and his wife Greta of Temple; and great-granddaughter, Ellis Marie Burke of North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and Troy Parsons, her husband of 66 years.
