EARLY – In a key contest in the District 2-3A Division II championship race, the Early Longhorns put forth their best overall performance of the season with a 69-8 rout of the Brady Bulldogs Friday night at Longhorn Stadium.
Early (3-4, 2-0) generated 631 yards of total offense behind a balanced attack of 322 yards on the ground and 309 through the air.
Rohyn Price competed 11 of 17 passes for 309 yards with six touchdownx to help spark the Longhorn offense, Griffin Cheslock compiled 201 rushing yards and a pair of touchdowns on just 13 carries, and Andrew Reedy caught a team-high four passes for 118 yards with three trips to the end zone.
Other offensive standouts included Ben Morris with 90 yards rushing and a touchdown, while Kaleb Ozuna contributed a 4-yard touchdown on his only carry. Ki Houston caught two passes for 87 yards and scored once, Reece Middleton finished with two receptions for 23 yards and a touchdown, and Ben Bleth hauled in a 29-yard scoring reception, and Weston Barton caught four passes for 30 yards.
The Longhorns led Brady (2-5, 1-1) by a 14-0 count after one quarter, then pulled away in the second period as Early owned a 55-6 lead at halftime.
The Bulldogs finished with 347 total yards – 260 rushing and 87 passing – but hurled a pair of interceptions. Zeke Jones rushed for 141 yards and Ashton Taylor added 55, while quarterback Sean Jacoby was 4 of 18 through the air for 87 yards with a touchdown and two picks and added 41 yards on the ground. Mason Airheart recorded 58 yards receiving for Brady on one reception.
Next week, Early travels to Grape Creek (0-7, 0-2), which is coming off a 35-12 loss to San Angelo TLCA (4-3, 1-1).
