SAN ANGELO – The Brownwood JV Lions continued their undefeated run through the schedule with a 57-0 road victory over San Angelo Lake View Thursday night.
The JV Lions (8-0, 2-0 in District 2-4A Division I) were sparked by the play of sophomore quarterback Dallas Shumaker, who completed 14 of 17 passes for 203 yards with two touchdowns while also rushing for three scores.
Sophomore receiver Grant Gray caught four passes for 106 yards with one touchdown, while sophomore tight end Brinson Martin also contributed a scoring reception. Sophomore running back Caven Webster chipped in two rushing touchdowns.
Sophomore kicker Eliuth Valenciano converted all seven of his extra-point attempts, while sophomore Robbie Robinson added a two-point conversion on the ground.
The Lions defense forced four punts and three turnovers – an interception return for a touchdown by sophomore Raven Prado and a pair of picks from sophomore Durham Brown.
The defense pitched its fourth shutout of the season. Robinson, Martin, and Elias Munoz led the way with multiple tackles each. Gray, Brown, and Webster had multiple physical hits. Defensive linemen Treyvon Mitchell, Ben Wilson, Wesley Isquirdeo, and Ian Barrerra all played well up front.
The JV Lions, who have outscored their first eight opponents of the season, 295-53, will be in action Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. as they host Lubbock Estacado.

Freshman Lions 30, Lake View 0
SAN ANGELO – The Brownwood Freshman Lions posted their second straight shutout in District 2-4A Division I action, rolling past San Angelo Lake View, 30-0, Thursday.
The Freshman Lions (4-4, 2-0 in District 2-4A Division I) started the scoring on their second drive with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Rory McNeese to Conner Cornelius for a 6-0 lead.
In the second quarter, the Lions stretched the advantage to 13-0 on an 8-yard touchdown run by J.J. Lopez, coupled with a McNeese extra point, then McNeese threw a 7-yard scoring toss to Dylan Current and added the PAT.
Leading 20-0, the Lions tacked on a safety before halftime for a 22-0 cushion as Lake View snapped a ball over the punter’s head and through the end zone.
The Lions capped the scoring in the second half with a 14-yard touchdown carry by McNeese, and Wyatt Wolf caught a two-point pass from McNeese for the final points.
Defensive stalwarts included Wolf with 6 tackles and a pass break up; Current with 5 tackles and 2 for loss; Isaac Rodrigues with 4 tackles and 3 for loss; Cornelius with a pair of interceptions; and Lopez, Levi Moss, Jacoby Belvin and Waylon Harrington with tackles behind the line of scrimmage.
The Freshman Lions will host Lubbock Estacado at 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Combined Team 14, Stephenville 6
STEPHENVILLE – The Brownwood Subvarsity Combined Team improved to 3-5 on the season with a 14-6 road victory over Stephenville, a late addition to the schedule as the original home contest against Roscoe was canceled.
In the Lions’ victory, Hayden Christiansen threw a pair of touchdown passes to Noah Grummert, who also scored on a two-point conversion.
Defensively, Josiah Riley recorded a sack while linebackers Brayden Middleton, Madix Coalson, Luke McGinnis, and Daylon Anson also had standout performances. Jeremiah Chacon, Michael Herrada, Tyson Norway pitched in with several pass break ups.
On Stephenville’s last offensive drive, Herrada came down from his safety position to make a tackle and caused a fumble that Kayden Luker recovered to seal the victory.
