ZEPHYR – The Zephyr Bulldogs cruised to a 60-0 victory over the Brookesmith Mustangs Friday night in a non-district battle of Brown County six-man schools.
Zephyr (4-2) finished with 167 yards of total offense – 84 passing and 83 rushing – while limiting Brookesmith (3-2) to 124 yards – 105 on the ground and 19 through the air – with three turnovers.
Karsen Floyd scored two defensive touchdowns for the Bulldogs on an interception return of 70 yards and a fumble return of 21 yards. Floyd also scored on a 38-yard pass from Wyatt Stevens.
Tripp Ballard chipped in 58 rushing yards and three touchdowns of 22, 1, and 35 yards for Zephyr, and caught a 41-yard pass.
Stevens connected on all three of his pass attempts for 84 yards and also added a 5-yard scoring strike to Rhett Williams.
Chayden Woodcock tacked on a 7-yard rushing touchdown for the Bulldogs.
Defensively for Zephyr, Floyd led the way with 10 tackles followed by CJ Byers with eight, Ballard with seven, Jim Evetts with six, Woodcock and Johnny Paul Evans-Rollins with five apiece, and Corben Gosnell with four tackles.
Next week, Zephyr hosts Gustine (3-3) in its District 15-A Division II opener, while Brookesmith has a bye. The Mustangs kick off District 16-A Division II action on Oct. 13 at Lohn (0-6).

Blanket 74, Evant 24
BLANKET – The Blanket Tigers rolled to a 74-24 homecoming victory over the winless Evant Elks Friday night to even their overall record prior to the start of District 15-A Division II action.
Blanket (3-3) generated 437 yards of total offense, including 395 rushing yards, against Evant (0-6).
On the ground, Kannon Kensing churned out 210 yards and five touchdowns on just eight carries while Cameron Aultman contributed 177 yards and two scores on 10 rushes. Adam McLaughlin chipped in a touchdown and 8 yards on two carries, as well.
Through the air, Gage Jones completed 3 of 4 passes for 23 yards with two touchdowns, while Aultman tossed a 19-yard touchdown to Mason Beck. Brennen Varner caught two passes for 20 yards, both touchdowns, and Aultman added a 3-yard reception.
Defensively for the Tigers, Aultman tallied 14 tackles with a fumble recovery and an interception; Kensing recorded 10 tackles and recovered a pair of fumbles; Beck notched seven tackles and a fumble recovery; and McLaughlin finished with four tackles and a fumble recovery.
Next week is the bye for Blanket, which opens District 15-A Division II action Thursday, Oct. 12 at Gustine (3-3).

Coleman 40, San Saba 26
COLEMAN – In battle of teams who picked up wins in their District 5-2A Division I openers, the Coleman Bluecats made it two in a row in league play – and five consecutive victories overall – with a 40-26 homecoming triumph over San Saba Friday night.
Coleman (5-1, 2-0) jumped out to 12-0 lead over San Saba (2-4, 1-1) in the first quarter and kept the Armadillos at arm’s length the rest of the evening.
The Bluecats finished with 483 yards of total offense – 281 rushing and 202 passing – and overcame three turnovers, while the Armadillos generated 277 yards – 177 on the ground and 100 through the air, with one turnover.
Brayden Torres completed 10 of 14 passes for 202 yards and three Coleman touchdowns – all to Hunter Lackey who finished three grabs for 91 yards. Torres also rushed for 33 yards.
Jadin Jackson rushed for 150 yards and two touchdowns for the Bluecats, while also catching a team-high four passes for 85 yards.
Anthony Espitia chipped in 61 yards rushing while Brent Bouldin finished with 37 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Kelan Sikes (12 yards), Bouldin (8 yards) and Braylon Stewart (6 yards) also caught passes for the Bluecats.
For San Saba, Ethan Gonzales rushed for three touchdowns and compiled 158 yards on the ground on 28 carries.
Lane Miller completed 3 of 6 passes for 71 yards with a scoring toss to Skylar Romero, who grabbed three catches for 97 yards.
Winton Lackey was 2 of 4 through the air for 29 yards and added 12 rushing yards for the Armadillos.
Next week, Coleman ventures to reigning District 5-2A Division I champion Tolar (4-1, 1-0) while San Saba welcomes De Leon (5-1, 2-0).

Richland Springs 70, Burkeville 20
BURKEVILLE – The Class A Division II No. 10 Richland Springs Coyotes made the 700-mile round trip to the brink of Louisiana and picked up a sixth straight win, 70-20, over Burkeville to start the season.
Richland Springs added to Friday night’s game to its schedule this past weekend and improved to 6-0 with the victory over Burkeville (0-4), which is playing its first year of six-game football after dropping down from Class 2A Division II last year.
The Coyotes finished with 360 yards of total offense, including 325 rushing, against Burkeville.
Gage Behrens led the way with 137 yards and three touchdowns on the ground while Billy Perry tacked on 101 yards and a score and Kenny Triplett finished with 78 yards and three trips to the end zone.
Through the air, Hudson Tharp completed 3 of 4 passes for 23 yards with a touchdown to Jayden Sutherland, who grabbed two catches for 10 yards. Perry also completed his lone pass attempt for 15 yards and a touchdown to Tharp.
Defensively, Triplett, Tharp and Behrens led the way with four tackles apiece trailed by Rush Norris with 3.5 tackles, including three behind the line of scrimmage with one safety. Sutherland intercepted two passes and Jim Eckermann recovered a fumble for Richland Springs.
Next week, the Coyotes kick off District 16-A Division II action on the road against reigning league champion Cherokee (5-0), which had a bye Friday night.

Oglesby 54, May 8
OGLESBY – The Class A Division I No. 8 May Tigers suffered their second loss of the season Friday night, falling to the undefeated, Class A Division II No. 11 Oglesby Tigers, 54-8.
May (4-2) was held to 208 yards of total offense – 128 rushing and 80 passing – by Oglesby (6-0).
Braden Steele completed 5 of 11 passes for 44 yards and threw May’s lone touchdown to Kaden Watkins on an 11-yard reception.
Steele also rushed for a team-high 70 yards followed by Jackson Lusk with 33 yards, Mikey Scheriger with 20 and Wyatt Hardy with 5 yards on the ground.
Cayson Dail completed 5 of 7 passes for 36 yards while Lusk hauled in five receptions for 58 yards, Scheriger added two catches for 9 yards, and Hardy pulled down a 2-yard reception.
Defensively for the Tigers, Steele finished with eight tackles followed by Scheriger and Hagan Hester with six apiece, Lusk and Levi McInnis with four each, Hardy with two, and Watkins and Ryland Billadeau with one each.
Next week May visits Evant (0-6) in the District 14-A Division I opener for both teams.

De Leon 56, Goldthwaite 14
DE LEON – The Goldthwaite Eagles dropped their second consecutive District 5-2A Division I contest, while the De Leon Bearcats remained undefeated in league action following a 56-14 decision Friday night.
Goldthwaite (2-4, 0-2) manufactured 261 yards of total offense, with 201 of those coming on the ground, but the Eagles coughed up three turnovers.
Marcus Stevens led the Eagles with 88 yards on the ground, Max Storm added 87 and quarterback Ethan Deeds rushed for 26 yards and a touchdown.
Through the air, Deeds completed 6 of 15 passes for 60 yards with a touchdown and two interceptions. Luke Sanderson caught three passes for 52 yards and a touchdown, Collin Gardner added a 6-yard reception and Aidyn Lee caught two passes totaling 2 yards.
De Leon (5-1, 2-0) produced 454 total yards – 247 rushing and 207 passing – with a pair of turnovers.
Next week, Goldthwaite plays host to Bangs (1-4), which had its district bye Friday night, in 5-2A Division I action.
