STEPHENVILLE – The Brownwood JV Lions kept their undefeated record intact with a 27-14 victory at Stephenville Thursday night, improving to 6-0 on the season.
Sophomore quarterback Dallas Shumaker completed 7 of 10 passes for 120 yards with two scoring tosses. Sophomore receiver Grant Gray caught four passes, junior receiver Keedan Brooks hauled in a 15-yard touchdown and sophomore tight end Brinson Martin grabbed an 8-yard touchdown.
Sophomore receiver Raven Prado returned his fourth kick or punt on the season, an 80-yard kickoff return to tie the game after falling behind 14-7 in the third quarter.
Sophomore kicker Eliuth Valenciano converted two of three extra-point attempts.
The Lions defense forced a turnover, an interception by sophomore Robbie Robinson to end the game. Robinson also scored a rushing touchdown to push the lead to 13 points with a minute to go.
The defense also came up with two huge stops in the fourth quarter to hold on to a 21-14 lead.
Sophomore linebackers Robbie Robinson, Brinson Martin, and Elias Munoz led the way with multiple tackles each. Sophomore defensive backs Grant Gray, Durham Brown, and Caven Webster had multiple physical hits. Defensive linemen Treyvon Mitchell, Ben Wilson, Wesley Isquirdeo, and Ian Barrerra all played well up front.
The Lions have outscored their first six opponents of the season, 188-53, and will host Big Spring in the district opener at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5.

STEPHENVILLE – The Brownwood Freshman Lions slipped to 2-4 on the season
with their 23-0 loss at Stephenville Thursday.
Defensive standouts included Tyler Shumaker with 9 tackles, Wyatt Wolf with 7 tackles, Finn Null with 4 tackles, and KeShaun White with 2 tackles, a pass break up and an interception.
The Freshman Lions welcome Big Spring Thursday in the District 2-4A Division I opener.

Stephenville 28, Combined Team 14
STEPHENVILLE – The Brownwood Subvarsity Combined Team was doubled up by Stephenville, 28-14, Thursday night.
Offensively, Hayden Christiansen threw two touchdown passes for the Lions, Noah Grummert finished with two touchdown receptions and Jacob Green added a two-point conversion.
Defensively, Kayden Avalos recorded two tackles behind the line of scrimmage, and Luke McGinnis was in on several tackles. The defense had a couple of big stops in the second half and allowed just six points after halftime.
The Combined Team is now 2-4 on the season.
