The Brownwood Police Department issued the following press release Wednesday:
On Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at approximately 7 p.m., officers were dispatched to a theft report in the 2600 block of Morris Shepherd Dr. The reporting caller stated that she observed a male subject on a wheelchair ‘scooter’ steal bags of groceries from a vehicle that was being unloaded. The caller was following the suspect to the RV park in the 2600 block of Morris Shepherd.
Officer Heath Oakley arrived and received a summary of the reported theft by the witness. He then traveled to a particular RV spot and identified the suspect as 58-year-old John Robert Schubert, of Brownwood.
Schubert admitted to the theft while speaking with the officers. He then became belligerent and aggressive toward officers, trying to fight with them and kick them from his RV spot. While acting in this manner, Schubert’s dog attempted to attack officers which was further encouraged by Schubert’s commands to the dog.
At the conclusion of the investigation, Schubert was arrested for Theft w/Previous Convictions and Aggravated Assault.
