At today’s meeting of the Brown County Commissioners Court, recognition was given to the more than 250 First Responders in the County. The Commissioners declared today as “Texas First Responders Day” in Brown County (text of the proclamation below). First Responders are recognized today, Patriots Day, because of the selfless service performed by First Responders during the terrorist attacks on our country on September 11, 2001.
The Commissioners also approved a resolution authorizing a grant of funds from the County to the City of Brownwood Senior Citizens Center to provide home-delivered meals to homebound persons in the County who are elderly and/or have a disability. The amount of the grant is $148,106, and makes the Senior Citizens Center eligible to apply for more grant funding from the Texas Department of Agriculture. Senior Citizens Center Director Angie Dees reported that in the eleven months of the current fiscal year (October 1, 2022 through August 31, 2023), the Center has provided 72,891 meals to eligible Brown County citizens (some meals delivered, some on a take-out basis).
In other business, Commissioners approved the installation of a private water line at Watson Lane and Weatherby Circle, by the Brookesmith Special Utility District.
Also the Commissioners scheduled a budget workshop meeting for Thursday, September 14 at 10:00 a.m. The meeting is open to the public, but is a workshop only. No votes on the budget will be taken.
Below is the text of the Texas First Responder Day Proclamation:
“Whereas, Texas first responders provide valuable services through their assistance to the citizens of their communities and Brown County during times of need and crisis; and
Whereas, they respond to emergencies without hesitation when the call of duty arises and tirelessly give of their time and energy in humanitarian efforts, making themselves available every hour of the day, every day of the year; and
Whereas, responders have physical strength, stamina, extensive training, courage, and selfless concern for the welfare of others; and
Whereas, it is appropriate to recognize the duties and services that first responders perform by observing September 11th as Texas First Responders Day in Brown County,
Now, therefore, the Brown County Commissioners Court does hereby proclaim September 11th as Texas First Responder Day in Brown County and encourages all residents to take time to show the First Responders how much their service is valued in the county.
Adopted the 11th day of September, 2023.”
