GLEN ROSE – The Brownwood High tennis team kicked off District 6-4A action Tuesday with a 13-6 road win over the Glen Rose Tigers and Lady Tigers.
The Lions and Lady Lions set the tone by sweeping all six doubles matches.
Notching wins on the boys side were the No. 1 duo of River Prado and Tyler Mitchell (6-2, 6-1 over Jaxon Heppler and Clayton Gottfried), the No. 2 tandem of Wesley Goodrich and Eric Smith (6-3, 6-2 over Jose Saavedra and Dylan Staples) and the No. 3 pairing of Blake Hutchins and Caleb Dietlin (6-0, 6-4 over Jace Young and Maxwell Knoernschild).
For the girls, the doubles victories belonged to the teams of No. 1 Emma Delgado and Raylei Hickey (6-1, 6-4 over Jaslin Young and Cally Schlabs), No. 2 Ashlyn Bundick and Claire Meinecke (6-2, 6-4 over Ali Moss and Cameryn Pena), and No. 3 Ihana Figueroa and Anna Daniel (6-2, 7-6[6] over Alexis Rynders and Jewell Morris).
The Lions added four additional wins in singles action from No. 1 Prado (6-0, 6-1 over Heppler), No. 2 Mitchell (6-2, 6-0 over Saavedra), No. 4 Goodrich (6-2, 6-4 over Young), and No. 5 Smith (6-1, 6-0 over Jacob Thrasher).
The Lady Lions tacked on three victories in singles competition thanks to No. 1 Delgado (default), No. 4 Bundick (7-5, 6-2 over Schlabs), and No. 6 Daniel (6-4, 6-1 over Presley Roberts).
Brownwood (8-3, 1-0) will next take the court Friday, Sept. 15 at Copperas Cove. The next district match for the Lions and Lady Lions is Thursday, Sept. 21 at Lampasas.
