BRONTE – The Early Lady Horns won two of three matches Saturday at the Bronte tournament to reach the finals of the White Bracket, but fell short of claiming the championship.
Early knocked off San Angelo Cornerstone Christian (8-25, 28-26, 25-16) and Sterling City (25-11, 25-21) before being upended by Water Valley (25-19, 25-17).
Against Cornerstone, Jensyn Rasor led Early with four kills followed by three from Hadalee Saunders, two from Karley Smith and one each from Matty Boswell and Dakota Barksdale.
Grey Pruett tallied nine assists and Jenna Hataway was credited with one.
Defensively, Hataway logged eight digs trailed by Pruett and Saunders with three apiece, Boswell and Rasor with two each, and Gabby Benson and Piper Pederson with one apiece.
Barksdale and Pruett each logged one block.
Versus Sterling City, Boswell collected six kills followed by Saunders with five, Barksdale with three, and Pruett and Rasor with two each.
Pruett registered 18 kills and Hataway chipped in one while serving a pair of aces.
On the defensive end, Hataway notched five kills and Boswell contributed three.
Barksdale and Rasor both finished with one kill.
In the finale against Water Valley, Saunders, Boswell and Rasor notched three kills each while Smith added two and Barksdale and Benson finished with one apiece.
Pruett tallied 12 assists while Hataway added one, and Brooklyn McCullough served three aces.
On defense, Boswell notched five digs trailed by Hataway with four and Smith with one.
Rasor recorded a block for the Lady Horns.
Early (5-7) will hit the court against at 6 p.m. Tuesday at Lingleville.
