Brown County Republican Women’s Club and Brown County Retired Teachers Association partnered together on Thursday, June 8th to feed over 350 TXANG 111th Engineer Battalion Soldiers.
Soldiers were provided sandwiches, chips, desserts and water for dining-in and for those in the field were given a brown bag lunch and bottled water. Each lunch included a “card of support” to let the Soldier know we appreciate their service to our Country.
“Cards of Support” were handmade by students from Little Dude Childcare, Latch Key, Boys & Girls Club, Coggin Ave Baptist Youth, Southside Church Youth, Brownwood First Baptist Church Youth, First Methodist Church, Brownwood High School Sign Language Class, Brownwood East Elementary, Brownwood Coggin Elementary and Blanket Elementary. Residents of Chatfield Assisted Living also made cards of support for Soldiers.
Thank you to the businesses that made donations to help with this event:
Ann Jones Real Estate, West Texas Printing, Western Bank, Texas Bank, Brownwood Area Chamber of Commerce and United Supermarket.
We also owe a lot of gratitude to Darlene Harte, Soldier & Family Readiness Specialist, Texas Military Department. For several years, Darlene has helped us coordinate the event and lets us know the “Military” way to do things.
What a wonderful experience for our members and community volunteers to have an opportunity to thank our Military for all they do for our country and community. We have done this in the past and always have a good turnout to help and lots of fun honoring those who serve in our Military.
