The Texas Department of Public Safety released details regarding a six-vehicle accident 3 miles east of Comanche that claimed the lives of a Coleman man and a Comanche man shortly after 6 p.m. Saturday.
The accident took place on U.S. Highway 67 and 56-year-old Steven Lewis Stuart of Coleman and 78-year-old Jimmy Walter Crosson of Comanche were pronounced dead at the scene by Justice of the Peace Johnny Conine.
A preliminary investigation revealed that a 2012 Nissan Titan sports utility vehicle driven by Crosson and a Ford pickup truck were traveling east on US 67. The Ford pickup was following the Nissan Titan. The driver of Ford pickup drove across the center dividing stripe into the westbound lane of US 67 passing the Nissan Titan. A 2022 Toyota Prius was traveling west of US 67 approaching the Ford and the Nissan at this time. The driver of the Toyota observed Ford approaching in his lane, without sufficient distance to pass Nissan, and took evasive action by driving toward the right shoulder. The Ford’s left side struck the Toyota’s left side.
A 2015 Harley Davidson, Street Glide motorcycle, a 2007 Harley Davidson, Heritage soft tail motorcycle, and a 2008 Yamaha, XV1700A motorcycle — driven by Stuart — were traveling west on US 67 approaching this action following the Nissan and took evasive actions. The 2015 Harley Davidson veered right to avoid the Ford that was fleeing the scene and was struck in the left side mirror. The driver of the 2007 Harley Davidson veered left into the path of the Toyota. The Toyota took evasive action to avoid the 2007 Harley Davidson steering left into the westbound lane. The actions of the Nissan and the 2007 Harley Davidson caused them to collide on their right sides. The 2008 Yamaha was unable to avoid the collisions and struck the Nissan head on.
The driver of the Ford was not located. The Ford will have damage to the left side. Investigators are still trying to locate the Ford pickup and its driver.
Mari Kanani Lai Jun Chun, 35 of, Pearl City, Hawaii was driving the Toyota and was uninjured.
Joel Max Easter, 62, of Early, was driving the 2015 Harley Davidson and suffered non-incapacitating injuries.
Khayman Broadi Dela Rosa, 32, of Brownwood, was the driver of the 2007 Harley Davidson, was transported to Texas Health Harris Methodist Hospital in Stephenville with a critical, incapacitating injury.
