Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood posted the following information on its Facebook page Wednesday morning:
Hendrick Medical Center Brownwood and Dr. Michael Blanc, interventional cardiologist with the Hendrick Clinic Cardiology team recorded a first, with the implantation of a loop recorder or a remote cardiac monitor (RCM) for a patient in Ballinger.
The RCM detects atrial fibrillation (Afib), syncope, bradycardia, cryptogenic stroke or fast heart rate. The RCM continuously monitors heart rhythms for up to two years without interrupting the patient’s lifestyle. You can enjoy your activities, while the RCM sends your provider the necessary information with an added convenience of using a mobile app to capture your own symptoms when something does not feel right.
Combining both the recorded information and the personal notes will give your provider a better idea of your cardiac episodes. Many cardiac episodes may easily be treated once diagnosed. Visit with your cardiac provider if you have questions and they will determine if an RCM is right for you.
