Allen Wayne “Pete” Maddox, 91 of Early, passed away Monday, May 22, 2023, surrounded by family.
Graveside services for Pete will be at 1:00 pm, Wednesday, May 31, 2023, at Terrace Cemetery in Post, Texas. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, Tuesday, May 30, 2023, at Blaylock Funeral Home in Brownwood. Arrangements are under the direction of Blaylock Funeral Home of Brownwood.
Pete was born September 21, 1931, in Brown County (Shelton Dairy) to Roy and Ruel (Bolton) Maddox. He attended school in Garza County and Post, Texas. Pete worked many jobs during his lifetime including his first job at Piggly Wiggly. He also worked for TL Jones Ice House and with a seismograph crew in the oil field. He worked for the City of Post for many years, ending as the City Manager. After moving to Brownwood, Pete worked for FMC, Big Rig Fertilizer Companies, and did farming and ranching.
Pete was a member of Bangs Church of Christ, and the men’s “coffee club” at the Red Wagon. He had a love for animals, especially horses, which he always had. Pete’s favorite things included Wrangler jeans, George Strait shirts, and John Deere tractors.
Pete proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean War.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 68 years, Sammie Ladell (Williams) Maddox; sister-in-law, Juanita Case, and many nieces and nephews that were like his own children. He is also survived by his inherited children, Rocky and Kristi Roberts and their children Roxi and Khloe, and Randall and Cindy McAnally.
Pete was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ruel Maddox; brothers, Herman and Thurman Maddox; and sister, Fleta Caffey.
